In this unit, students will examine the context of Lewis and Clark’s journey, discover the challenges they encountered, chart maps of the journey, discover the Native Indians they met along the way, and gain a deeper understanding of the journey’s challenges through the journals of Lewis and Clark. The students will be required to use technology to create projects demonstrating knowledge, post blogs documenting their progress, and develop social skills by participating in groups.
Uncharted Territory
At PBS Online's Lewis and Clark Web site(http://www.pbs.org/ lewisandclark/), look at the map of Lewis and Clark's route and compare the route to a modern map of the United States.
Lesson goals:
Identify and describe the rivers on the journey.
Explore the mountain ranges crossed and explain how they affected the journey.
Compare and chart the journey through modern-day states and modern-day towns traveled through.
