In this unit, students will examine the context of Lewis and Clark’s journey, discover the challenges they encountered, chart maps of the journey, discover the Native Indians they met along the way, and gain a deeper understanding of the journey’s challenges through the journals of Lewis and Clark. The students will be required to use technology to create projects demonstrating knowledge, post blogs documenting their progress, and develop social skills by participating in groups.

Native Americans

In this lesson, students will research, explain, and present information about the influences of Native American tribes encountered by the Corps of Discovery throughout the expedition.

Lesson goals:
  • Practice research skills to explain important facts about Native Americans tribes encountered
  • Analysis and describe influences of Native Americans and represent influences in a Wordle online
  • Groups/students opinion on Indian influences will be expressed in class/student blog for further discussion in class
