In this unit, students will examine the context of Lewis and Clark’s journey, discover the challenges they encountered, chart maps of the journey, discover the Native Indians they met along the way, and gain a deeper understanding of the journey’s challenges through the journals of Lewis and Clark. The students will be required to use technology to create projects demonstrating knowledge, post blogs documenting their progress, and develop social skills by participating in groups.

Exploring the West

In this lesson, students will discover about the context of Lewis and Clark’s journey, work individually to develop ideas, collaborate in a group, post blogs, and be responsible for producing a group project illustrating the key factors of Lewis and Clark’s journey, using the online software, Prezi. Each student will be also post three blogs.

Lesson goals:
  • Examine the expedition of Lewis and Clark
  • Analyze how the physical characteristics of the environment influenced population distribution and settlement patterns in the United States during the 18th century. 
  • Enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity using technology tools to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers
